2-Year-Olds Impress at Del Mar, Saratoga

Collusion Illusion pulled away in the stretch to take the 2019 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar, while Zayat Stables showed that they may have another monster horse in Gozilla.

At Saratoga, Collusion Illusion pulled the upset, stalking leaders Thanks Mr. Eidson and Raging Whiskey along the backstretch. He then made his move 4-5 wide on the far turn, putting a nose in front on the outside. He finished 1 1/4 lengths in front of an impressive Wrecking Crew, who overcame a horrible start and was almost half a dozen lengths back 100 yards into the race.

The odds-on favorite, Fore Left, was nosed out for second.

It’s the second win in a row for the son of Twirling Candy. Schrodinger, an early favorite, was scratched due to a virus.

On the other side of the country, Gozilla broke his maiden with an impressive 4 1/2-length victory at Saratoga. The colt led from wire to wire and was never really pressed in recording his first win at 5 1/2 furlongs. The next stop for him could be the Hopeful Stakes.
