Mind Control Controls the Field in Jerome

Mind Control proved that last summer’s upset win in the Hopeful Stakes was no fluke, leading almost the entire way in Sunday’s Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct.

The son of Stay Thirsty disappointed fans with his seventh-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. But he got off to a good start in the Jerome, battling Souper Jackpot for the lead down the backstretch before taking a one-length lead.

Heading into the homestretch, he was being chased by four horses. Our Braintrust emerged from the four to challenge Mind Control, but Mind Control found another gear and won by a comfortable two lengths.

Tax was third, followed by Souper Jackpot.

Next up for Game Winner: he’ll probably stay in New York for the Road to the Kentucky Derby, which means possible entries in the Withers, Gotham and Wood Memorial.
