Coliseum, the latest superhorse-in-waiting in Bob Baffert’s barn, is expected to make his debut today in a six-furlong maiden race at Del Mar.
The unraced son of Tapit has had superb workouts so far, his last being a four-furlong breeze in :47 2/5 last weekend at Santa Anita. Since he’ll be racing in November, he won’t be following the route of Triple Crown winner Justify, who went unraced as a 2-year-old
Godolphin Racing, who has yet to win a Kentucky Derby, is betting on Baffert to win the elusive prize with their most talented colt. But before you go running to betting windows, Baffert told Thoroughbred Daily News that “I don’t have any American Pharoahs or Justifys in my barn this year.”
After today, Baffert may change his mind. And he still has plenty in his arsenal, including expected 2-year-old Male Horse of the Year Game Winner.
