The Tabulator Holds on in Iroquois

The Tabulator held off Hollywood Star in the final furlong to win the Iroquois Stakes, the first race on the road to the 2018 Kentucky Derby.

The win earned The Tabulator 10 points in the Kentucky Derby standings.

The pace was torrid, with the early leader Smart Remark setting a  :23.12 time over the first quarter mile. The Tabulator stayed patient in second place as the two distanced themselves from the rest of the pack. The Tabulator made his move over the tiring Smart Remark around the far turn, and seemed to have it locked up with a three-length lead entering the homestretch.

Here came Hollywood Star on the outside, rushing furiously from off the pace. The Tabulator seemed to be tiring as he drifted to the outside, forcing Hollywood Star to change direction and head toward the inside. At the end, The Tabulator held on for a 1/2 length win.

Ten City was third.
