Classic Empire Rebounds, Takes Breeder’s Futurity

Classic Empire bounced back from his disastrous showing in the Hopeful Stakes, winning by a convincing three lengths over a fast-closing Lookin at Lee.

In the Hopeful Stakes, Classic Empire unseated his rider at the start of the race and did not finish the race, exhibiting signs of lameness. But the horse was fresh and looked impressive in the win, pulling away in the homestretch.

Classic Empire stalked the leaders Wild Shot and Blame Will in third place, and then made his move around the far turn. He held a one-length lead heading into the homestretch, and then increased it to three. He was held up at the end to conserve energy, or the margin of victory would have been wider.

Wild Shot hung on for third place. Blame Will finished fourth.
