Kermode – which at first glance looks like a synonym for toilet – didn’t run that way in the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity Saturday, overcoming a fast pace to win going away.
The namesake of Kermode Stable, waited back in seventh place as Strate Remark, All Under Control, and Silent Eagle, who went through a fast quarter in 22:07 and a half-mile in 45.91 seconds.
Kermode (pronounced Ker-MOAD-ee) began making his way toward the leaders as they approached the far turn and found himself four-wide as he challeneged the leaders heading into the homestretch. It didn’t matter. As soon as he hit the homestretch he took a commanding lead and won by 2 and 1/2 lengths over Strate Remark, a horse who had beaten him previously.
All Under Control held off Kelson by a neck for third.
