Mohaymen is For Real; Awesome Banner Isn’t

Mohaymen showed why horse racing experts have been drooling over him over the past few months; he easily pulled away from lightly raced Zulu today in the $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes.

Mohaymen won by 2 1/2 lengths despite a bad start that had him five wide on the first turn. He settled into fifth place as unbeaten Awesome Banner set the pace, followed closely by Zulu.

By the far turn Awesome Banner began to tire and dropped out of contention quickly. Zulu took command, but by that time Mohaymen had stalked the leaders and went right for Zulu. As they entered the stretch, Mohaymen seemed to put it in another gear and slowly pull away from Zulu. Fellowship languished in third place. The effort from Mohaymen seemed almost tireless, like a jog in the park.

The victory knocked Zulu and Awesome Banner from the ranks of the unbeaten and sets the stage for Mohaymen to face unbeaten Nyquist in the Florida in five weeks.
