Storm the Court Steals Breeders’ Cup Juvenile from Dennis’ Moment

45-1 longshot Storm the Court took advantage of an almost disastrous stumble by favorite Dennis’ Moment at the beginning of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, setting the pace and fighting off another game longshot, Anneau d’Or, to win the prestigious juvenile event.

At the start, Dennis’ Moment, stumbled badly, going to his knees as track announcer Frank Mirahmadi was the only one who got the call right as the colt trailed the pack going into the clubhouse turn. He never recovered, never firing and finishing last in the eight-horse field.

Up front, Storm the Court led the whole way, trailed by Eight Rings and Anneau D’Or. As they reached the far turn, Eight Rings failed to fire and faded, leaving 25-1 shot Anneau D’Or to challenge Storm the Court for the lead, with 39-1 shot Wrecking Crew coming between horses for third.

In the end, Storm the Court won by a nose. Scabbard, one of the favorites, finished fourth.

Dennis Moment seemed to rush out too quickly and failed to grab the Santa Anita surface. It is not known how he came out of the race.
