In a wide open field in the Lecomte Stakes, War of Will was made the favorite, even though his last outing on dirt was his maiden victory, a change from his previous races on turf.
The son of War Front did not disappoint, going outside on both turns but staying close to the lead throughout the first part of the race as Malpais and Manny Wah set a pedestrian pace.
War of Will made his move entering the far turn, pulling up next to Manny Wah, and then evened out in the homestretch to pull away by a comfortable four lengths over fast-closing Hog Creek Hustle.
Manny Wah managed to hold on for third, and Wicked Indeed was fourth.
War of Will, trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, won his second straight race and earned 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. His handlers are looking at the Risen Star Stakes Feb. 16 for his next race.
