Blended Citizen led a field of horses from off the pace to edge out Pony Up to win the $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks (not Stakes).
Coming out of the clubhouse turn, Mugaritz held the lead at a pedestrian 25.14 for the quarter mile, while Blended Citizen and Pony Up stayed back in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
Mugaritz then sped things up as he opened up a six-length lead on the field heading into the far turn. The field caught up with him around the turn, and at the eighth pole Mugaritz was finished, his lead being yeilded to Pony Up and Blended Citizen.
The two fought neck and neck down to the wire, but Blended Citizen held off Pony Up for the win. Arawak also came from off the pace to finish third one length back.
Blended Citizen collected only 20 points for the win, since it was not one of the premier prep races leading up to the Kentucky Derby.
