Jockey Club Puts Bolt d’Oro, Good Magic at Top of Rankings

The Jockey Club announced that Bolt d’Oro and Good Magic topped its Annual Top 2-Year-Old Rankings, formerly known as the Experimental Free Handicap. There was no reason given for the name change. The explanation of the rankings is the same:  a weight-based assessment of the previous year’s leading 2-year-olds, with the weights compiled for a hypothetical race at 1 1/16 miles. Firenze Fire Rebounds in Jerome – Barely

Firenze Fire, off a disappointing finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year, squeezed a 1/2 length victory over Seven Trumpets in the Jerome Stakes. The race, which had been delayed because of the cold weather, began with Seven Trumpets setting a slow pace. Firenze Fire was last and seemed content to stay that way until the far turn. He then went four wide trying to catch Seven Trumpets and seemed set to zoom past him at the eighth pole….
