Solomini dug in his heels and came in first in a close three-horse battle in the Los Alamos Futurity, but he didn’t win. A stewards’ inquiry moments after the finish resulted in a disqualification of Solomini for bumping into Instilled Regard, causing him to wobble slightly as he was sandwiched in between Solomini and McKinzie. Weeks after finishing a disappointing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, Catholic Boy scored an impressive win in his first race on a dirt track, taking the Remsen Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths over Avery Island. Catholic Boy stayed close to the lead throughout the race, never farther back than sixth.
