Free Drop Billy took advantage of a misstep by Ten City, taking the lead entering the homestretch and winning the Breeder’s Futurity with ease.
The son of Union Rags, who had finished second in his last two races, hung back in the middle of the pack while Ready Prospector took the early lead. Ten City waited in second place before making his move around the far turn, and it looked like he had the race won.
Suddenly, Ten City took a wrong step and his jockey eased him up, leaving longshot Bravazo in the lead. Free Drop Billy took care of that quickly, overtaking Bravazo and cruising to a four-length win.
Sadly, Ten City suffered a serious injury to his left foreleg and had to be euthanized.
