California Diamond Wins Barretts Juvenile

In a mild upset, California Diamond came from way off the pace to win his maiden, defeating, Crosscheck Carlos and 4-5 favorite Big League in the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile at Los Alamitos. Turning into the homestretch, California Diamond was boxed in behind a wall of horses. Caribou Club broke his maiden in a big fashion Saturday, as he overtook Undulated to win by a nose in the Laurel Futurity. Favorite Greatbullsoffire set the early pace, but Undulated overtook him in the stretch and seemed destined for victory. Our Rombauer came from off the pace to overtake Howboutthemcowboys and win the First State Dash for 2-year-olds by 1/2 length. Loconotion took a surprisingly large lead in his maiden, covering the first 2 furlongs at a fast pace. Howbouttthemcowboys overtook him in the far turn, though, and seemed to have the race one.
